general

In theatre, front of house is everything on the audience side of the proscenium plus the staff who run it: box office, ushers, bars, and the duty manager who owns the decision to hold the curtain. In live sound, FOH is the mix position out in the house and the main system it drives.

Regional usage

WhereTermNote

Easy to get wrong

An FOH bar in a UK theatre sells drinks. An FOH bar in lighting is a lighting position over the auditorium. Same two words, different trade.
An FOH engineer and a house manager are unrelated roles even though both are described as front of house.
