House
The part of the building the audience occupies. "House open" means the audience may come in, which fixes the moment work on stage has to stop. The word also attaches to anything belonging to the venue rather than to the visiting production.
Regional usage
| Where | Term | Note |
|---|---|---|
| TW | 觀眾席 |
Easy to get wrong
House left and house right are read from the audience's seat and are the mirror image of stage left and stage right. This reverses on every call.
House lights, house sound and house rig mean the venue's own equipment. None of them refer to the seating area.
