Home Assistant
Open-source local control for connected devices, with an unusually large set of integrations. Relevant here because it is the most practical way to bring consumer and building devices into a venue system without handing control to a vendor cloud.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| mqtt | bidirectional | First-class. |
| matter | bidirectional | Supported. |
| thread | bidirectional | Via a border router. |
| zigbee | bidirectional | Via a coordinator. |
| knx | bidirectional | Integration available. |
| dmx512 | out | Through integrations, and not a substitute for a lighting control system. |
What to watch for
It is building automation, not show control. Nothing a cue depends on belongs here.
Updates are frequent and occasionally breaking. Pin a version on anything installed.
Typical use
- Local control of building and consumer devices in an installation
- Keeping a venue working when a vendor cloud is not
- Scheduling and automation around a space
