Hold 暫停/HOLD
The instruction to stop where you are without resetting. A hold freezes the sequence: a fade stops part way, a move stops mid-travel, and everything stays put until the stage manager either releases the hold or calls a reset. It is the instruction that buys thinking time, which is why it exists as a separate word from abort.
Regional usage
| Where | Term | Note |
|---|---|---|
| UK / US | Hold | |
Easy to get wrong
A hold is not an abort. Hold means stay here and wait; abort means abandon the sequence. On moving automation the difference is a safety one.
A hold is not a pause button. Nothing resets, and a fade left half way is a lighting state nobody designed. Wait to be told what to do next.
Not a cargo hold, and not the grip sense of the word. On a headset it is always the sequence instruction.
