Flame effect
A controlled open flame used as part of a performance, fuelled by gas or a liquid fuel rather than by a burning solid composition. Regulated separately from pyrotechnics — in the United States under NFPA 160 — because the hazards differ: a continuous fuel supply, a flame that can be sustained or re-ignited, and an abort that must remove fuel rather than simply stop a sequence.

Easy to get wrong
A flame effect abort is not a pause. It has to remove the fuel, which is why the control is usually a physical key or valve rather than a spoken cue.
The hazard is not only the flame. It is also the heat above it, the products of combustion in an enclosed room, and the oxygen it consumes.
