Dry tech

stage-management

A technical rehearsal run without performers, so departments can work through scene changes, cue sequences and automation moves at their own pace before anyone is put into them. It is usually the cheapest place in the schedule to find the problems.

Regional usage

WhereTermNote
HK / TWDry tech

Easy to get wrong

A dry tech is not a paper tech. A paper tech is a table meeting about where cues sit, with nothing switched on and nobody on stage.
Scheduling a dry tech does not release the cast. Check the call sheet before anyone assumes a day off.
