ISO 13850
Safety of machinery — Emergency stop function — Principles for design
Scope
Specifies the emergency stop function: what it must do, how the device must be identified and operated, that it must latch, that releasing it must not restart the machine, and that it is a complementary protective measure rather than a primary one.
Notes
The source of the red actuator on a yellow background, of the requirement that release only PERMITS a restart rather than causing one, and of the statement people most often skip: an emergency stop does not make a machine safe, it is the last resort after safe design and guarding.
