Sound system equipment - Part 16: Objective rating of speech intelligibility by speech transmission index
Scope
Defines the Speech Transmission Index (STI): the 0-1 objective measure of how intelligibly a sound system delivers speech, including STIPA measurement for installed systems.
Notes
Voice alarm and PA intelligibility specs are written as STI or STIPA numbers against this document (life-safety systems commonly demand 0.50 or better). If a contract says "intelligible", this is the maths it means.
