Open Sound Meter
Free, open-source dual-channel FFT measurement application covering transfer function, impulse response and RTA. The credible zero-cost route into system measurement.
What to watch for
Interface and driver quality set the noise floor and the latency stability. A cheap USB interface limits what any measurement software can tell you.
The same measurement discipline applies as with any FFT tool: reference feed, microphone position and coherence still decide whether the trace means anything.
Typical use
- Learning system alignment without a Smaart licence
- Quick checks when the measurement rig is not on the truck
- Teaching measurement in a training context
