d&b audiotechnik DS100 Signal Engine
64x64 matrix processor and the engine behind d&b Soundscape. Takes positional data for sources and renders them across a loudspeaker system, which is why it turns up wherever object-based audio and performer tracking meet.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| dante | bidirectional | 64 in / 64 out over Dante. |
| aes67 | bidirectional | AES67 mode. |
| osc | bidirectional | OSC is the control surface for object positions, used by tracking systems and show control. |
| rttrpm | in | Positional data from BlackTrax and other RTTrPM sources, usually via a bridge. |
| psn | in | PosiStageNet positions, usually via a bridge. |
Connectors
- 2x etherCON Dante (primary/secondary)
- Ethernet control
- Redundant PSU
What to watch for
Soundscape is an approach, not a plug-in. The DS100 renders objects across a specific speaker layout that has to be designed for it, so retrofitting Soundscape onto an existing left-right PA does not work.
Object positions arrive by OSC. Whatever generates them - a tracking system, a console plug-in, a show controller - is a live dependency of the audio, which is a different reliability conversation than a normal matrix.
