Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series
Enterprise access switch commonly specified for permanent show networks in venues, where the IT department owns the estate and wants a switch their tooling already manages.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| sacn | bidirectional | Transported. IGMP snooping and querier configuration are what make sACN behave here. |
| art-net | bidirectional | Transported. Art-Net broadcast on older nodes is what floods a badly configured VLAN. |
| dante | bidirectional | Transported. Requires QoS DSCP trust and correct queue mapping. |
| aes67 | bidirectional | Transported, with the same QoS requirements as Dante. |
| ptp-1588 | bidirectional | Transparent or boundary clock support varies sharply by model and licence. |
| snmp | bidirectional | SNMP agent and traps, the usual way a venue monitors its switches. |
Connectors
- 24 or 48 Gigabit access ports
- Uplink module (1G/10G/25G SFP)
- PoE+ / PoE++ on PoE models
- Console port
What to watch for
Out of the box this is not a media switch. Multicast will flood without an IGMP querier somewhere on the VLAN, and audio will glitch without DSCP trust configured on the access ports.
The IT department owns it. Getting a VLAN, a querier and QoS configured for a show is a scheduling problem weeks ahead, not something to raise at load-in.
Energy-efficient Ethernet and some power-saving features interact badly with PTP and low-latency audio. Turn them off on media ports.
