A tape mark on the deck showing exactly where a piece of scenery, a furniture leg or a performer belongs. Spikes are what make a scene change repeatable in the dark, so stage management lays them and everyone else is expected to work around them.

Easy to get wrong
In audio and electrics a spike is a transient overshoot in a signal or a supply. Same word, opposite meaning, and it turns up in the same building.
Spike tape is thin low-tack tape made for marks. Gaffer tape is not spike tape, and pulling the floor finish up with it will be your problem.
