riggingsafety critical

The fixed height a flown bar is set to and marked at. A piece has an in dead and an out dead. "Take it to its dead" means run it to that mark and stop there. British and Hong Kong usage. North American crews call the same thing a trim.

Regional usage

WhereTermNote
UK / HKDead高低兩個位置分別是 in dead 和 out dead。
US / CATrimNorth American houses say high trim and low trim for the same marks.

Easy to get wrong

"Dead" also means de-energised. From an electrician, "the bar is dead" means no power. From a flyman it means the bar is at its mark. Confirm which.
A US electrician saying "trim it" wants the height changed. A UK flyman saying "on its dead" means the height is already correct. Opposite actions.
