Phantom power
48 volts DC sent up the same balanced pair that carries the microphone signal, to power a condenser capsule or an active DI. Equal on both legs, so a balanced input rejects it and a dynamic microphone ignores it.

Easy to get wrong
Phantom is not the same as T-power (A-B powering) and it is not the same as bias for an electret lavalier. Patching a ribbon mic into a live 48V leg can destroy it.
