Low fog

generalsafety critical

Fog cooled below the temperature of the room so that it sinks and lies on the deck. Produced by chilling ordinary fog, by dropping solid carbon dioxide into hot water, or with liquid nitrogen. The layer is temporary by definition: as it warms to room temperature it becomes neutrally buoyant again and rises as ordinary fog.

Easy to get wrong

Low fog does not disperse where it lies. It warms, rises, and arrives in the lighting beams a minute later looking like a hazer fault.
Dry ice and cryo release carbon dioxide, which displaces air and pools in the low, still places the effect fills — pits, traps, under-stage. A person lying down is in the worst of it.
