Deadman / hold-to-run
A control that only allows motion while an operator is actively holding it, so releasing it, or gripping it in panic, stops the move. Standard on stage automation, hoist controllers and anything that moves scenery with people nearby.

Easy to get wrong
A three-position enabling device is not the same as a simple hold-to-run button: it stops both when released AND when squeezed fully, which is the behaviour that matters when someone is startled.
