ANSI/TIA-598-D
Optical Fiber Cable Color Coding
Scope
Defines the jacket and print colour convention used to identify optical fibre type by sight: colours such as orange, aqua, and erika violet for the various multimode grades (OM1-OM4), and yellow for single-mode (OS1/OS2), plus codes for buffered fibres and connector strain-relief boots. It is an industry naming convention, not a physical property of the glass, so an unlabelled or repurposed cable has to be confirmed against its printed spec rather than assumed from jacket colour alone.
Notes
Published 9 July 2014 as a revision of TIA-598-C (2005), with Addendum 1 and Addendum 2 (both 2018) adding a jacket colour for OM5 wideband multimode fibre. As of TIA's own June 2023 published standards-revision list, a further -E revision was still "work in progress"; no published -E edition has been found since, so -D with its addenda remains the current text.
