ANSI/TIA-568.2-E
Balanced Twisted-Pair Telecommunications Cabling and Components Standard
Scope
Defines the copper structured-cabling requirements for balanced twisted-pair systems: the Category 5e/6/6A/8 electrical performance specifications, connecting hardware, cords, and field-test limits a cable actually has to meet to be sold under its category name. This is the part of the TIA-568 series that a bare "EIA/TIA-568" citation usually means when the subject is copper Ethernet cable and termination quality, as opposed to the wider cabling architecture in TIA-568.0 or the optical-fibre requirements in TIA-568.3.
Notes
Developed by TIA committee TR-42; announced 5 November 2024, incorporating the balun (Category 8 test) and power-delivery addenda from the prior -D edition, plus new DC resistance-unbalance limits for Category 5e/6/6A. TIA-568 is a family, not one document: 568.0-E (generic cabling architecture), 568.1-E (commercial building infrastructure), 568.3-E (optical fibre), 568.4-D (broadband coax) and 568.5 (single twisted-pair) are separate parts with their own edition letters and dates.
