IEEE 802.1Q-2022
IEEE Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Bridges and Bridged Networks
Scope
VLAN tagging, priority code points and the bridging behaviour every managed switch implements. The document behind "put lighting on VLAN 10, audio on VLAN 20" and behind the QoS priority values that keep Dante and ST 2110 ahead of file copies.
Notes
The 3-bit PCP field in the VLAN tag is what audio-over-IP vendors mean by "priority 5 for media, 7 for clock". Without a tag there is no PCP, which is why untagged access ports quietly lose the QoS you thought you configured.
