IEC 62471-5:2015
Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems - Part 5: Image projectors
Scope
Defines a risk group classification system (RG1, RG2, RG3) and the measurement conditions for optical radiation emitted by image projectors — theatre projectors, data projectors, and home-use projectors — regardless of whether the light source is a lamp, LED, or laser. This is the part of the 62471 series that actually governs projector risk-group labelling; the base IEC 62471 document covers general lamps and lamp systems and explicitly excludes projection uses from its own scope.
Notes
Edition 1.0, published 9 June 2015, developed by TC 76 (Optical radiation safety and laser equipment), stability date 2027. Often cited loosely alongside IEC 60825-1 as "IEC/EN 62471" for laser-illuminated projectors: 60825-1 classifies the laser diodes as a source, while this part classifies the projected output an audience is actually exposed to, measured at a defined projection ratio (2.0:1 for interchangeable optics). A European harmonised EN 62471-5 also exists.
