HDMI Specification 2.2
High-Definition Multimedia Interface Specification Version 2.2
Scope
Defines the HDMI interface: TMDS/FRL signalling, connector pinout and types, the audio/video protocols it carries, the EDID and HDMI-CEC control channels, and (from 2.1 onward) the higher-bandwidth modes such as Dynamic HDR and higher resolution/refresh-rate combinations. Each version number describes the maximum a source, sink, or cable can do — the connector shape alone never tells you which version a given port or cable actually supports.
Notes
Released 25 June 2025 by the HDMI Forum's Technical Working Group, raising maximum bandwidth to 96 Gbit/s over a new "Ultra96" cable and FRL lane structure. The HDMI Forum, Inc. develops and releases the technical specification; HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. (HDMI LA) is the separate entity appointed as licensing agent, handling trademark and compliance licensing for adopters. Full specification text requires signing the (no-cost) HDMI Adopter Agreement, not a cash purchase, but is not a public download.
