Digital Cinema Initiatives - Digital Cinema System Specification
Scope
The studio-consortium specification digital cinema is built to: image formats and 48 cd/m2 screen luminance reference, JPEG 2000 compression, packaging (DCP), security and projection requirements, with SMPTE standards carrying the formal definitions.
Notes
Where the 14 fL / 48 cd/m2 cinema brightness target that projectionists and screen calculators quote comes from. Event cinema and premieres in venues inherit these expectations even outside DCI-compliant rooms.
