Entertainment Technology - Architecture for Control Networks (ACN)
Scope
A suite of documents specifying an architecture, protocols, and a device description language for networked control of entertainment equipment. It is transport agnostic but is normally run over UDP/IP, and it supplies the root layer and PDU structure that ANSI E1.31 (sACN) reuses for streaming DMX512 data.
Notes
ESTA lists the current edition as ANSI E1.17-2015 reaffirmed in 2025. Full ACN is implemented far less often than sACN, but sACN cannot be read properly without the root layer definitions that live here.
