ANSI E1.11-2024
Entertainment Technology - USITT DMX512-A Asynchronous Serial Digital Data Transmission Standard for Controlling Lighting Equipment and Accessories
Scope
Defines the DMX512-A method of digital data transmission for control of lighting equipment and accessories, covering the electrical layer, connector and pinout, packet timing, start codes, and the alternate start code mechanism that later standards such as RDM build on.
Notes
The document descends from the USITT DMX512/1990 protocol. The 2024 edition replaces the long-lived 2008 text and its R2013 and R2018 reaffirmations. Earlier editions remain downloadable from the ESTA page, which matters when you are working on equipment built to the older text.
