AES3-2009 (r2019)
AES standard for digital audio - Digital input-output interfacing - Serial transmission format for two-channel linearly represented digital audio data
Scope
AES/EBU: two channels of linear PCM on one balanced 110 ohm pair, self-clocking, with status and user bits alongside the samples. The consumer S/PDIF interface is the same data on different electricals.
Notes
An AES3 pair carries its own clock, so a device fed AES3 usually has to slave to it. That is why the AES/EBU feed from a playback machine is so often the accidental clock master of a rack that was supposed to follow word clock.
