Rhino 3D
NURBS modelling application used for scenic design, complex geometry and stage architecture, and increasingly as the geometry source for projection mapping and LED screen design.
What to watch for
A mapping model needs clean, correctly scaled geometry with sane units. A beautiful visual model with inconsistent scale is unusable to a media server.
Grasshopper work is often the real deliverable in complex scenic design, and it does not survive export to a mesh format. Hand over the definition, not only the geometry.
Typical use
- Modelling complex scenic geometry
- Producing the surface model a projection map is built against
- Fabrication drawings for a scenic shop
