QLC+
Open-source lighting control software with a fixture library, cue engine and a drag-built virtual console. Runs on desktop and on a Raspberry Pi, which makes it the usual answer for a small rig with no budget for a console.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| art-net | bidirectional | Art-Net plugin, listed in the project's plugin set. |
| sacn | bidirectional | Shipped as the E1.31 plugin. |
| dmx512 | bidirectional | Via the DMX USB plugin and supported USB widgets. |
| osc | bidirectional |
What to watch for
A protocol plugin being installed is not the same as it being patched. Nothing leaves the machine until you map each universe to an output in the Input/Output panel.
Fixtures use QLC+'s own definition format. Anything not already in the library has to be built in the Fixture Definition Editor before you can patch it, which is a job to do before the truck arrives, not on site.
The Raspberry Pi build is packaged separately from the desktop builds. Do not assume a project tested on a laptop behaves identically on the Pi.
Typical use
- Club and small venue lighting where a console is not justified
- Fixed installs running headless on a Raspberry Pi with the web interface
- Teaching DMX patching and cue building
- Bench testing fixtures and checking channel layouts
