Godot Engine
Small, fast-opening, genuinely free real-time engine under a permissive licence with no royalty and no company able to change the terms later. Smaller ecosystem and fewer industry integrations than Unreal or Unity — the right pick for learning, for tools a venue owns, and for anything that must still run in ten years.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |

What to watch for
You will build more of the show-specific integration yourself than in the commercial engines. That is the trade for owning the result.
Typical use
- Bespoke interactive tools an organisation needs to own outright
- Learning how a real-time engine works
- Small installations and exhibits
