Dante Virtual Soundcard
Turns a computer's Ethernet port into a Dante audio interface, giving a DAW or playback machine up to 64 channels in and out with no hardware beyond the network card.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| dante | bidirectional | Presents Dante channels as an ASIO / Core Audio device. |
| aes67 | bidirectional | AES67 mode where the network supports it. |
What to watch for
A general-purpose laptop is a poor real-time audio device. Wi-Fi, power management and background updates all cause dropouts that look like network faults.
The licence is tied to the machine. A spare laptop is not a spare unless it is licensed and configured in advance.
Virtual soundcheck is only as good as the channel naming. Record with the device and channel names the show file expects, or playback lands on the wrong inputs.
Typical use
- Multitrack recording of a live show from the console
- Playback into a Dante system without an interface
- Virtual soundcheck
