BACnet
An ASHRAE/ISO standard protocol for building automation (HVAC, lighting, access control, life-safety) that show-control and integration designers encounter whenever a venue's house systems need to be tied into a production's control network.
Small messages that either repeat constantly or fire once. Bandwidth is almost never the problem.
What kills it. Latency and loss on the messages that fire once. A repeating level survives a dropped packet; a GO does not.
Why this one, and not what the category suggests. Building automation: HVAC and lighting plant, actually commanded rather than monitored.
