NETGEAR M4250 (AV Line)
Managed switch family designed for AV-over-IP, with an AV-mode interface that applies preconfigured profiles (QoS, IGMP, VLANs) per protocol instead of leaving DSCP tables to hand configuration.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| dante | bidirectional | Transported, with a shipped AV profile that sets Dante's QoS and multicast handling. |
| aes67 | bidirectional | Transported, AV profile available. |
| ndi | bidirectional | Transported, AV profile available for NDI's bursty streams. |
| sacn | bidirectional | Transported; IGMP snooping with querier is the point of using a managed switch here. |
| art-net | bidirectional | Transported. |
| avb-milan | bidirectional | AVB licence available on M4250, making it one of the few mainstream switches that can carry Milan. |
| snmp | bidirectional | SNMP monitoring. |
Connectors
- Model-dependent GbE/PoE+ copper plus SFP/SFP+ uplinks
What to watch for
The AV profiles only help on the ports you actually apply them to: a port left in the default profile still forwards traffic, just without the QoS and IGMP behaviour the rest of the network assumes.
