Clear-Com FreeSpeak II
Wireless intercom system built on DECT in the 1.9 GHz band, with beltpacks roaming between distributed antennas. The 1.9 GHz choice is the point: it is not competing with the venue's Wi-Fi, which is why DECT displaced 2.4 GHz systems on show sites.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| dect | bidirectional | The radio link to the beltpacks. |
| dante | bidirectional | Networked audio to the base station, depending on configuration. |
| aes67 | bidirectional | Where enabled. |
Connectors
- Antenna transceiver connections
- Partyline and 4-wire interfaces
- Ethernet
What to watch for
Antenna coverage is a survey problem, and handover between antennas is where a system shows whether it was designed or hoped.
Band allocation for DECT differs by region, so packs are not always portable between countries.
Every wireless hop adds latency the wired partyline did not have.
