ChamSys MagicQ MQ80
Compact console running the full MagicQ software, with the same show files as the rest of the range. The usual argument for it is that the software is free on a laptop, so a designer can program anywhere and land on the console with a show that already works.
Protocols it speaks
| Protocol | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| art-net | out | Multiple universes over network. |
| sacn | out | Multiple universes over network. |
| dmx512 | out | Direct DMX outputs. |
| rdm | bidirectional | Through supported nodes and outputs. |
| ltc | in | Timecode for playback. |
| mtc | in | MIDI timecode. |
| osc | bidirectional | Remote control and feedback. |
What to watch for
Universe counts on the physical outputs and over the network are different numbers. Check both against the rig before quoting.
The free PC software is the same application, which makes offline programming genuinely equivalent — and makes it easy to build a show that outgrows the console it is going onto.
