Thyristor dimmer 可控矽調光器

A dimmer that switches the mains on partway through each half cycle and passes the remainder, so the lamp averages a chopped waveform. Small, cheap, load independent and controllable from a tiny signal, which is what made remote consoles with hundreds of channels practical. Chopping generates harmonics including the third, a triplen that adds rather than cancels in a three-phase neutral, and the sudden switch-on is what makes filaments sing.
