Skew 時間偏差

networking

The gap in arrival time between signals that are supposed to land together. On a parallel bus, skew is why wide, fast parallel interfaces stopped scaling — every wire's propagation delay drifts slightly, and at high clock rates that drift corrupts the word being read. It is one of the main reasons almost everything fast today — USB, SATA, PCIe, Ethernet — went serial instead of parallel.

中文

本應同時到達的訊號之間的到達時間差。在多對纜線、多路影像或多台機器同步時都會出現。

Easy to get wrong

On analogue videotape decks, "skew" is a tension control fixing the top of the picture bending left or right — a mechanical tape problem, unrelated to digital timing.
